Crape Myrtle for Showy Blooms and More
Crape myrtle, sometimes written all as one word, is a popular flowering tree in the South. It is hardy only in zones 7 through 9, and can be killed by the cold in the northern parts of zone 7. It comes in a wide range of sizes and colors, so if you are in the right zone, you are sure to find the type of crape myrtle that would perfectly accent that spot in your yard.
Crape myrtles vary in size from miniatures and dwarfs to twenty foot trees, so be sure you pick a variety that will fit in the location where you want to use it. In addition to the varieties of flower colors available, there are also varieties that feature beautiful autumn foliage and striking winter bark patterns.
